Chiefs head coach Andy Reid opened his NFL Combine media availability by shooting down a “fabricated” report about his relationship with Eric Bieniemy.

The focus this week may be on the NFL Combine, but Chiefs head coach Andy Reid used the opportunity in Indianapolis to address something else looming over his team.

Reid was apparently surprised to come back from vacation after Kansas City’s playoff exit to find out he and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy are on the outs.

The head coach said he “wanted to put that to rest.”

Andy Reid says Eric Bieniemy reports were “fabricated”

“This whole thing with Eric Bieniemy that’s gotten kinda fabricated. We were on vacation and then over the two weeks I came back and all of the sudden it was that I didn’t like Eric and Eric didn’t like me and Pat Mahomes and everybody else. That’s not the case. We all get along good and I’m glad he’s back with us and rolling,” Reid said.

Despite all the hubbub around Bieniemy’s relationship with the rest of the coaching staff and Patrick Mahomes, he’s slated to return to the Chiefs as offensive coordinator. So clearly the situation in KC is good enough to not result in a breakup.

Biemiemy has been with the Chiefs since 2013. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018 and has held that role ever since, helping to guide Mahomes and the Chiefs high-flying offense to a Super Bowl and four AFC title appearances in each of the last four years.

The assistant was once again a candidate for NFL head coaching jobs this offseason but he was passed over for other options. The idea of him leaving the Chiefs for a lateral offensive coordinator move emerged soon after.

Now that Reid has spoken on the matter, fans in Kansas City shouldn’t have to worry about an OC search.
