Dak Prescott had offseason shoulder surgery, but Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy does not think it is anything to worry about.

If the Dallas Cowboys are going to repeat in the NFC East and contend for a Super Bowl next season, franchise quarterback Dak Prescott has to stay healthy.

Prescott underwent offseason surgery to clean up his left shoulder. Given that this is his non-throwing arm, no wonder Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy does not sound overly concerned about it. As long as Prescott is able to take part in most of the team’s offseason activities, the Cowboys will be in good shape heading into training camp. This is a big year for America’s Team.

There is a chance the 2022 NFL season could be a defining one in Prescott’s professional career.

Dallas Cowboys: Mike McCarthy unconcerned about Dak Prescott’s surgery

The fact McCarthy does not seem worried about Prescott missing time is the big key here. Simply put, if the Cowboys do not win big this season, it will be McCarthy’s last coaching the team. Not only do the Cowboys have two potential candidates to promote from within in Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn, but Sean Payton could return to the NFC after spending the season out of football.

As long as Prescott is healthy, Dallas should be good enough to win the NFC East again and potentially multiple playoff games. It has been over a quarter of a century since the last time the Cowboys even played in a conference title bout. With the NFC in a bit of flux, the Cowboys have to take advantage of where they stand in their competitive life cycle. They have to win big this year.

Prescott may have had minor surgery, but he still has to carry the Cowboys to the promised land.
