With the news that the Cowboys will likely release Amari Cooper later this month, Dallas will reportedly prioritize a long-term deal with Michael Gallup.

A bomb was dropped by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Friday morning, as he’s reporting the Dallas Cowboys will likely release Amari Cooper in the near future. Due to salary cap complications, this moves makes sense for the Cowboys, but that doesn’t mean people are happy.

On top of that, insider Charles Robinson is also reporting Dallas will then focus on handing Michael Gallup a long-term deal. Again, Dallas fans are questioning this move, especially with Gallup coming off a torn ACL.

Dallas appears ready to give Michael Gallup a new contract

It’s easy to understand why so many people in Dallas are upset with Cooper on his way out of town. He’s become a true superstar in this league and he’s been a go-to option for Dak Prescott. Remember when people laughed at Jerry Jones for sending the Raiders multiple first-rounders for Cooper?

The veteran wideout proved everyone wrong with his on-field production. Now, Cooper will surely garner plenty of attention once he hits free agency. With him being 27 years old, he’s still got plenty of great football ahead of him.

Meanwhile for Gallup, he’s been working around the clock in his knee rehab. He’ll be ready to bounce back and put up some big numbers catching the ball from Prescott in 2022. With that said, losing Cooper is going to be a big blow for this offense. There’s still a chance tight end Dalton Schultz isn’t back in 2022 either.

The Dallas offense could have a completely different look next season. This is something that the Dallas supporters are quite nervous about moving forward.
