5 players Dolphins should draft in the first round
4. Chris Olave
Olave was originally slated to be a late Round 1 pick, but the blistering 4.26 40-yard-dash he ran at the Combine might see him shoot up draft boards. If he does fall to No. 29, he’ll be a strong consideration for Miami’s front office.
The former Ohio State standout is a polished route-runner who already possesses the versatility to play inside or on the boundary at the pro level. That’s important for a team that is already working hard to develop Jaylen Waddle into a big-play threat.
The questions about Olave as a prospect all relate to his average size and the ease with which he got open due to Ohio State’s multiple scheme. There are more physically imposing wideouts in this year’s draft class, but Olave has a rare combination of speed and polish.
The Dolphins will sprint to the podium if Olave falls to them at No. 29. His performance at the Combine likely ended those dreams for Miami, but it’s always possible that impressive performances from other prospects will push Olave back down to the Dolphins.
