San Diego State punter Matt Ariaza put on a show at the NFL Combine, living up to his “Punt God” moniker with a stunning 80-yard punt.

San Diego State’s Matt Araiza is called the “Punt God” for a very good reason.

He made that clear as day at the NFL Combine on Sunday with a display of the incredible punts that made him a must-watch feature on College Football Saturdays.

We’re talking 80-yard punts with pinpoint accuracy. Just watch:

Punt God Matt Araiza did it again at the NFL Combine

Think that was the only punt Araiza managed that with? Think again. This is par for the course for the Punt God.

Araiza also impressed with his legs in another aspect of the Combine, running a 4.72-second 40-yard dash. That’s not exactly on par with the blazing-fast times set by wide receivers but that’s plenty quick enough for a punter or kicker to make a play or two on a fake.

The draft chatter around Araiza is pretty incredible. John Infante of Draft Wire argued he could go on Day 2 of the draft with “the best leg for a punter I’ve ever seen.”

The last time a punter was selected on Day 2, which features the second and third rounds of the draft, was in 2012 when the Jaguars chose Bryan Anger out of Cal.

Two punters have been drafted in the second round: Rohn Stark in 1982 by Baltimore and Todd Sauerbrun in 1995 by Chicago.

Whoever picks up Araiza will be getting a unique talent for their kicking game. It’s just a question of how early a team is willing to go and get him.

In 2021, Araiza averaged 51.2 yards per punt, leading the NCAA. He also made 45-of-45 extra point attempts and hit 18-of-28 field goals. He was a consensus All-American and winner of the Ray Guy Award as the best punter in college football.
