5 players Browns should draft in the first round
2. Jordan Davis
Davis garnered a ton of headlines by running a 4.82 40-yard-dash at 341 pounds. The simple truth is that NFL teams were already very intrigued by the former Georgia star due to the power and quickness he showed on film.
Drafting a defensive tackle at 13 might not electrify the Browns’ fan base, but it would be prudent roster-building by the team’s clever front office. Davis has the talent to lift the team’s run defense by himself. Combine that with his ability to make plays in the opposing backfield and it’s easy to see why Cleveland will be intrigued by the idea of nabbing him in Round 1.
Davis does need to work on his body if he wants to maximize his potential at the next level. He did get fatigued during games at Georgia and his pro team will want to get him in better shape to up his ability to rush the passer on obvious passing downs.
Before the Combine, it seemed likely that Davis would be on the board when the Browns go on the clock at No. 13. Now it’s possible a team in the top-10 will select him to solve their problems upfront. If Cleveland wants the behemoth defensive tackle they might need to trade up a few spots to get it done.
