Former Braves outfielder Cameron Maybin may have a connection to Atlanta but he’s advocating for Freddie Freeman to sign with the Dodgers in free agency.

Now that free agency is back in play with the end of the MLB lockout, the Freddie Freeman saga can finally be resolved.

Will he stay with the Braves? Will he leave for a big offer somewhere else in free agency?

We’ll find out soon enough, but at least one former Brave isn’t pushing for him to remain in Atlanta.

Cameron Maybin thinks Braves 1B Freddie Freeman is a fit for the Dodgers

“I’m just saying, my boy Freddie Freeman has a smile fit for the HollyWood lights,” Maybin tweeted on Thursday.

That’s not exactly what Braves fans will want to be hearing from a player who once wore their jersey, even if it was briefly.

Maybin, who retired earlier this year, played with Freeman in Atlanta during the 2015 season after he was traded from the Padres. Freeman was in his sixth year with the team. Maybin was traded to Detroit ahead of the 2016 season, so his time playing with Freeman was pretty limited.

The funny thing about Maybin pushing for Freeman to land with the Dodgers is that he just joined the YES Network as an analyst for the Yankees, who are also pursuing Freeman.

Freeman has spent his entire career with the Braves. The idea of him suiting up for another team is hard to imagine, though it’s definitely easier for fans in Los Angeles to envision him in Dodger Blue.

Thus far, negotiations between Freeman’s camp and Atlanta haven’t created much certainty around his return. Los Angeles may be able to offer Freeman more money, especially given their willingness to splash cash when necessary.

The fact that the former MVP and five-time All-Star is originally from Southern California only strengthens the draw for him to head back west.
