Russell Westbrook is having a year to forget for the Los Angeles Lakers but Stephen Curry has his back right now.

The drama doesn’t look like it’s going to be ending in the near future for Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Lakers. Westbrook is in his first year near Hollywood, but his performances on the hardwood have people up in arms.

Westbrook has been a major disappointment for the Lakers in 2021-22, with people blasting him every chance they get. Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has seen all of the noise against Westbrook. Curry has come out in support of Westbrook, saying he respects him for how he’s handled the rollercoaster ride thus far.

Stephen Curry isn’t a fan of people bashing Russell Westbrook

“I told him when we played them in L.A. a couple of days ago that I respect how he’s handled the whole year, just in terms of everything he’s been saying and how he’s been handling himself and protecting his family,” Curry said via Yahoo Sports. “It is the nature of the beast.

“And in a certain perspective, they build you up to break you down. The real ones who have done amazing things in this league know what that means. He’s a professional, and I’m proud of the way he’s conducting himself, and I’m there for him.”

It’s not only fans who have been going after Westbrook, as members of the media have also been putting him on blast. During an episode of The Mismatch podcast, The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor lit up Westbrook.

“This is the same guy that has cupcakes at his 4th of July party, playing into the Kevin Durant cupcake nickname,” O’ Connor said. “What a (expletive) hypocrite.”

Unfortunately for Westbrook, he’s gotten used to seeing these kinds of comments throughout the campaign. When he first landed with the Lakers, fans all over town were ready to see him play like he used to in his prime. The opposite has been the case for him and the Lakers find themselves in ninth place of the Western Conference standings.
