The New York Mets are working on improving this offseason and they just bolstered their starting rotation with another solid pitcher.

It sure seems like the New York Mets are intent on building a pretty dangerous starting rotation. While the Mets ended up losing a few really talented arms over the past few months, things have been looking up lately because of some impressive moves.

One such move that should be celebrated is the Mets bringing Chris Bassitt in thanks to a trade with the Oakland Athletics.

Bassitt isn’t the most impressive pitcher ever, but the 6-foot-5, 33-year-old is coming off of a pretty impressive season. During the 2021 season, Bassitt ended up throwing through 157.1 innings while recording 159 strikeouts. Bassitt also recorded a 3.15 ERA and there are plenty of reasons to be excited about his potential.

New York Mets add another solid starting pitcher to their rotation thanks to trade with Oakland Athletics

Bassitt is a very respectable pitcher who helps the Mets round out one of the more impressive starting rotations the MLB has to offer this season. That said, the Mets did have to give up some young talent with plenty of potential to be able to get the experienced right-handed pitcher.

As Jeff Passan notes, J.T. Ginn and Adam Oller will be leaving New York and are headed out west to Oakland.

Ginn is a pretty solid pitcher who could develop into something special. He spent his college days with the Mississippi State Bulldogs and has shown he could be pretty good if he’s ever given the chance to make it to the big leagues. Ginn was previously one of the top prospects for the Mets and is now currently ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Athletics organization, according to MLB.com.

There’s reason to believe that this trade could work well for everyone involved.
