Albert Pujols looks like he dropped a ton of weight this offseason, which could be a good reason for the Cardinals to sign him, if they’re interested.

It appears free agent Albert Pujols has dropped a lot of weight in anticipation of making what could be his final big payday.

In an image shared by Edwin Encarnacion’s Encarnacion Development Baseball System, Pujols is standing beside Encarnacion looking much slimmer than we last saw him with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS against the Atlanta Braves.

Pujols is rumored to be receiving some attention, notably from his former team where he rose to legendary status, the St. Louis Cardinals.

Here is Pujols next to Encarnacion:

Showing off that he has put in some work to get stronger and healthier is a great look for Pujols. He wants to play and he wants to be able to contribute. This will be important as many teams are seeking a designated hitter after the DH became universal with the new collective bargaining agreement.

St. Louis Cardinals: Could Albert Pujols be a full-time DH?

Pujols would not only contribute as a DH but has years of experience at first base. While he may not generate everyday play status, he could definitely step up and help at first to give a teammate a break.

And who wouldn’t want Pujols in their clubhouse? He is obviously still working hard and showing off that work ethic to younger players would be excellent. Any team would be lucky to have that database of baseball knowledge available to them.

It’s great to see him put in that work to get healthier and be ready physically for a full season of baseball. He still has some milestones to reach. He is about 21 home runs away from hitting 700. It would be an epic event to reach that mark. Especially in St. Louis where he was beloved for over a decade.

Next. One NL team exits, keeping Cardinals reunion hopes alive. dark
