Why the Raiders should have interest in Tyrann Mathieu
The Las Vegas Raiders could pull a fast one on the Kansas City Chiefs and sign standout defensive back Tyrann Mathieu.
If the Las Vegas Raiders want to try and make a splash in the AFC West this offseason, then they need to be aggressive in free agency. While fans are still hopeful Davante Adams will somehow join the team, a major defensive pickup would be just as sexy.
How about landing superstar safety Tyrann Mathieu in free agency? Not only would it address a position of need for the team, but it’d also deliver an earth-shattering blow to the Kansas City Chiefs and their fanbase.
Tyrann Mathieu signing with the Raiders would be just what Vegas needs
Mathieu loves Kansas City and he wants to return to the reigning AFC West champs, but it doesn’t look like general manager Brett Veach is ready to put the kind of offer on the table Mathieu is looking for. With this, it could allow for Las Vegas to slide in and put a head-turning amount of money in front of the defensive back.
We’ve seen some major moves already in the division, highlighted by the Broncos pulling off the blockbuster to trade for Russell Wilson. Denver’s Super Bowl odds skyrocketed following that move. For the Raiders, signing Mathieu alone won’t make them favorites in the AFC West, but it will certainly send a message to Kansas City, L.A. and Denver.
In terms of the Chiefs, it would be quite the jab from the Raiders to poach away a fan favorite, which would make the signing even sweeter. If Veach wants to prevent that from happening, he should get on the horn as soon as possible to connect with Mathieu. As for the Raiders, they shouldn’t think twice in showing serious interest for Mathieu. He’s simply that good of a player.
