Baker Mayfield released a statement following the Cleveland Browns meeting with Deshaun Watson. Former teammate Duke Johnson threw massive shade towards him.

On Tuesday, the Cleveland Browns met with Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson to discuss a potential trade. Hours later, quarterback Baker Mayfield released a statement addressing the uncertainty while thanking the city of Cleveland.

Former teammate and running back Duke Johnson decided to take some time out of his night to throw some massive shade at his former quarterback.

Ahead of the 2019 season, Johnson demanded a trade off the Browns. Mayfield then made viral public comments about Johnson’s trade request, saying “You’re either on this train, or you’re not.”

Hence the use of the gif with a derailed train, with Mayfield seemingly on the outs of Cleveland.

Following his request, Johnson was traded to the Texans for a 2020 third-round draft pick. He spent two seasons with that team before being released in 2021. He was signed to the Miami Dolphins practice squad, where he played four games. Johnson is currently a free agent.

As for Mayfield, he watched as the Browns meet with Watson on Tuesday. According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Texans only allowed teams to talk with Watson if they approved a trade offer. Given that information, Cleveland’s front office made an offer Houston deemed acceptable, but a trade is all dependent on the quarterback waiving his no-trade clause.

Mayfield is coming off season where he dealt with a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. He is currently entering the final year of his rookie contract by way of the fifth-year option, where he is set to make $18.58 million in 2022.
