Did Aaron Rodgers sign off on Davante Adams trade?
After a blockbuster trade sent star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Raiders, people are wondering if Aaron Rodgers knew before the Packers made the move.
The Packers haven’t given Aaron Rodgers a ton of weapons on offense but he’s had Davonte Adams, one of the best receivers in the game, by his side for the past eight seasons.
That all changes in 2022 after Green Bay agreed to trade the receiver to the Raiders.
What does that mean for the relationship between Rodgers and the team he just signed a massive new deal with?
Did Aaron Rodgers know about the Davante Adams trade?
Apparently, Rodgers was aware of Green Bay’s plans to let Adams go in some way, shape or form.
“While Aaron Rodgers was negotiating his contract, he knew Davante Adams would never play for the #Packers again,” Ian Rapoport tweeted after news of the trade hit. “The situation was too far gone. Something had to give. And when Adams informed GB he wasn’t playing on the tag, talks got fired up. Now, Adams will be on the #Raiders.”
So Rodgers decided not to retire and to come back to play for the Packers despite the knowledge that he wouldn’t have his most dangerous weapon on the field going forward.
If the plan is to win a Super Bowl in the limited window remaining in Rodger’s career, it’s hard to see how this helps that goal. Green Bay will be getting a first and second-round pick for the 2022 draft. Perhaps they’ll use one of those on a new pass-catcher, though they’d be hard-pressed to find someone as dangerous as Adams.
As it stands, Rodgers will have Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling as his top returning receivers. The two combined had fewer years and receptions than Allen alone in 2021.
