Chiefs need to sign Za’Darius Smith after Ravens’ deal falls apart
With Za’Darius Smith no longer planning to sign with the Baltimore Ravens, Brett Veach needs to pick up the phone immediately.
The celebrating is over for the Baltimore Ravens fans who were jacked up to see Za’Darius Smith make plays in the trenches for the defense. That’s because according to Ian Rapoport, Smith has changed his minds and he’ll be playing the 2022 campaign elsewhere.
This has come from out of nowhere, but the interest is expected to quickly return from teams on Smith. With that, Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has a golden opportunity to land the pass-rusher. It’s something the Chiefs need to get done as soon as possible.

Za’Darius Smith would be a fantastic fit for the Chiefs
Smith had originally agreed to a four-year deal worth $35 million with Baltimore, but a change of heart has arrived. Imagine if Kansas City were to get him to town after things fell through with the Ravens. It’d send people in Baltimore into panic mode.
Defensively, it’d be a monster move for head coach Andy Reid, as it’d help out the play of Kansas City’s pass-rush. Smith was only able to play in one regular season game due to a serious back injury in 2021, but he worked his way back for the NFC Divisional Round showdown against San Francisco. Unfortunately for the Packers, they suffered a loss in that one.
When healthy, however, there’s no arguing that Smith is an absolute beast in putting pressure on signal-callers. In 2019, Smith recorded 13.5 sacks and he followed that up with 12.5 sacks in 2020. Smith will be motivated to remind people of how dominant he can be next season. If he joins the Chiefs, he’d also be in a position to potentially play in the Super Bowl as well.
