Aaron Rodgers was already considering retirement. Now that the Packers have traded Davante Adams to the Raiders, could he actually do it?

The Packers‘ fractured relationship with Aaron Rodgers stole most of the headlines over the last year but it turned out their ties with Davante Adams were even more fragile.

Green Bay traded Adams to the Raiders after the receiver indicated he had no interest in playing for the team again, even turning down equal money to stay.

Does the situation with Adams change the equation for Rodgers, who recently agreed to a new monster deal with the Packers?

Will Aaron Rodgers retire after the Packers traded Davante Adams?

The short answer is no. Green Bay trading Adams shouldn’t be the impetus for Rodgers retiring because he apparently knew it was going to happen.

If reports are true, Rodgers won’t be caught off guard by this news. He agreed to his contract knowing full well Adams wouldn’t be his receiver in Green Bay in 2022.

That doesn’t mean he couldn’t still decide to retire for some other reason. He doesn’t exactly need a good one to make that move.

It’s just not likely that this will be the thing that does it.

Has Aaron Rodgers signed his Packers contract?

In any case, Packers fans don’t need to worry about Rodgers backing out of his agreement to come back in 2022. According to Adam Schefter, the quarterback has already signed his contract. He’s locked in with Green Bay.

The question is what the team will do to give Rodgers a replacement for Adams. They’ve already tendered Allen Lazard but the receiving corps could use a big boost to keep the quarterback happy.
