David Ojabo suffered a leg injury during the Michigan football team’s pro day on Friday.

A scary moment happened in Ann Arbor on Friday morning, as Michigan football star David Ojabo sustained a leg injury during the Wolverines’ pro day.

Ojabo was an integral part of the Wolverines’ Big Ten championship team a season ago. Alongside fellow edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan made its debut in the College Football Playoff in 2021. While Hutchinson is likely a top-three pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Ojabo felt like a lock to go in the first round prior to this injury. Though he may go top-32 anyway, this injury feels significant.

Injuries happen in the lead-up to the NFL Draft all the time, but what a tough blow for Ojabo here.

The bad news with this injury is obvious. Ojabo had the potential to go inside of the top 10. While he still could if the injury is not as bad as it seems, this could potentially knock him out of the first round. However, there is an upside to seeing his draft stock taking a hit from this injury: He could be going to a better-run organization. If a contending team needs a pass-rusher, why not Ojabo?

Even if Ojabo falls into the second round, he would be a fantastic signing for the money, no matter what team he goes to. However, he would no longer be able to have the fifth-year option as all former first-round picks would. Thus, Ojabo could get to NFL free agency a year earlier than expected. Assuming this injury is not career-altering, he could be in line for a big pay day anyway.

Here is to a speedy recovery to one of the best pass-rushers entering the 2022 NFL Draft.
