Chiefs: Andy Reid downplays possibility of Tyreek Hill drama

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid commented on the Tyreek Hill trade, saying there was no drama between he and the star wide receiver.

Reid was up front about wishing Hill the best, while also acknowledging that the Chiefs made a contract offer — it just wasn’t enough to appease a player of Tyreek’s stature.

The Chiefs offense will hurt without Hill, that much is obvious. Kansas City and Reid will adjust the best they can, and that plan has already started to take place thanks to general manager Brett Veach, who has signed Ronald Jones and Marquez Valdes-Scantling with some of Hill’s money.

There is more left over, as well as the five draft picks the Dolphins sent Kansas City’s way in exchange for Hill.

Reid claimed there was no beef between the two, and it would be hard to justify any Chiefs fans who made that suggestion. Hill got plenty of opportunities in Reid’s offense — it’s part of what made him one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL.

While Hill will still be a factor with Tua Tagovailoa and Mike McDaniel, will he put up the same numbers that he grew accustomed to in KC? We’ll have to wait and see.

“I love Tyreek. There was no riff with me and Tyreek. We tried to sign Tyreek at a certain cost,” Reid said.

Obviously, that cost was below what Hill believed was his market value. And he was right, as the Dolphins made him the highest-paid wide receiver in football, just days after Davante Adams received the same honor with the Las Vegas Raiders when the Packers wouldn’t pay him.

It’s the wild west this NFL offseason, and it’s only just beginning.
