Per the Seattle Seahawks, star wide receiver DK Metcalf is not available despite trading Russell Wilson. But rival executives think they’re bluffing.

The Seahawks have remained sturdy, despite trading Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos and letting Bobby Wagner walk — they will not deal DK Metcalf.

The young wide receiver is on an affordable contract and a key part of the Seahawks future, or so they say. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler appeared on Sportscenter Sunday and stated that despite Seattle’s firm stance, league executives think Metcalf can be had at the right price.

"“This is a name that’s buzzing in league circles. No guarantee that anything happens here,” Fowler said Sunday on SportsCenter. “I’m told that Metcalf has gotten indications, informally from the team, that he’s not going to be traded. Seattle has said publicly they have no intention to trade him. But the execs I talk to keep bringing him up that maybe they would either be willing to move on at the right price or that Metcalf would welcome a change. So, something is going on here; it’s just hard to figure out what. But he’s got one year left on his rookie deal. He would need a new contract as part of a trade. That’s the tricky part.”"

Seahawks Report: DK Metcalf available at right price

Technically, Fowler is correct — every NFL player is available for the right price. If the Chiefs offered Patrick Mahomes for DK Metcalf straight up, the Seahawks would take it and rush Metcalf to the airport. Of course, that’s not how the league works.

But Metcalf and Tyler Lockett give Seattle a solid wide receiver duo, and the Seahawks are a stable quarterback away from perhaps surprising some people. Unfortunately, they just traded their stable quarterback play away, and for now are stuck with Drew Lock.

The likely resolution to this scenario remains Seattle keeping Metcalf and using a high first-round draft pick on a quarterback, say Malik Willis, so they can continue building around him on a rookie contract.
