The Green Bay Packers are looking at running backs like Isaiah Spiller in the 2022 NFL Draft for some reason.

Even though they have other more pressing issues, the Green Bay Packers may target a running back like Isaiah Spiller out of Texas A&M in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Aaron Wilson of the Pro Football Network reported last week Green Bay was one of the teams conducting Zooms with the former Aggies star. While other teams in dire need of a running back like the Buffalo Bills and the Atlanta Falcons make sense to be this in on Spiller, why are the Packers kicking the tires here? If they wanted an offensive weapon, it should be at wide receiver.

With Aaron Jones on a second contract and A.J. Dillon coming into his own, the Packers should be good at running back, right?

Look. Spiller has the chance to be a fantastic running back in the league, so maybe it serves a well-run team like the Packers to gather intel on him, regardless of if they draft him or not? Keep in mind that head coach Matt LaFleur stems from the Mike Shanahan coaching tree, meaning he loves to run the ball to open up the pass by using outside zone. Spiller is a dynamic playmaker.

However, the Packers will not contend for a Super Bowl if two-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers does not have reliable pass-catchers to rifle the pigskin to. Losing Davante Adams is a crushing blow, as is Marquez Valdes-Scantling to some extent. While Green Bay could be a run-first operation once Rodgers hangs up the spikes, they still employ the franchise quarterback.

No matter what the Packers brass decides to do in the draft, it will be to Rodgers’ displeasure. The organization thrives on picking all the players Rodgers does not want. Instead of taking a wide receiver two years ago that could be entering his prime, they reached on a project quarterback out of Utah State in Jordan Love. There is no telling what will happen in the NFL Draft for the Packers.

Green Bay may not select Spiller anyway, but they are one of the teams really looking hard at him.
