Deidre Pujols speaks out supporting Albert Pujols ahead of Opening Day

Albert Pujols received support from Deidre Pujols ahead of Cardinals Opening Day. The former couple are getting divorced soon.

Albert released a statement on social media just a few days ago, revealing that he and Deidre — his wife of over two decades — are getting a divorce. He did so with a heavy heart, of course, and it appeared to be a mutual agreement.

“I’ve been asked a lot of questions over the past few days regarding what’s been going on at home and sadly, after 22 years of marriage, I have made the decision to file for divorce from my wife, Deidre,” Pujols said. “I realize this is not the most opportune time with Opening Day approaching and other family events that have recently taken place. These situations are never easy and isn’t something that just happened overnight.”

Deidre, who recently underwent surgery on a brain tumor, is recovering in the hospital. She released her own statement just prior to Opening Day supporting Albert as he undertakes his last full MLB season.

Deidre’s statement offered nothing but support for Albert, and did acknowledge their looming divorce. Despite the issues in their personal life, the pair do care for one another, and have several children together.

Both Albert and Deidre have been mature about the situation at hand. Surely, it isn’t easy, but it’s a step in the right direction.
