Frank Clark recruits Tyrann Mathieu back to Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs pass-rusher Frank Clark isn’t giving up hope that Tyrann Mathieu can somehow return to the team.
From the moment the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a deal with safety Justin Reid, it all but closed the door on there being any chance of Tyrann Mathieu coming back. Don’t tell that to defensive lineman Frank Clark. He doesn’t want to hear it.
Despite Mathieu taking visits in his free agency, Clark is out here recruiting Mathieu for one more go with the squad. Could a miracle go down that actually brings the standout defensive back to Arrowhead?
Chiefs: Tyrann Mathieu surprisingly remains unsigned
Unfortunately for Clark, it really feels like there’s no way that Mathieu will re-sign with Kansas City. Them bringing in Reid on his three-year, $31.5 million contract means that there’s not going to be room for Mathieu.
On top of that, Mathieu recently took a trip to meet with the New Orleans Saints. More visits should be coming on the way for him. It has of course been a head-turning offseason for Kansas City, as the team also traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins.
Despite Hill not coming back – and most likely Mathieu too – Kansas City is still considered among the favorites to win the Super Bowl. The team was able to restructure Clark’s contract, which means he’ll be jacked up to try and help the Chiefs bring home another Lombardi Trophy.
If it were up to Clark, he’d have Mathieu on the field with him making plays for the defense. You can never say never in the NFL, but the idea of Mathieu signing with Kansas City this spring doesn’t make sense. Clark is shooting his shot, however, so something might get done. You never know.
