Ohio State football will honor Dwayne Haskins at spring game

Ohio State football will take the time at their annual spring game to honor former quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who tragically died over the weekend.

The passing of former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins rocked the football world this week. The Buckeyes will make sure to honor his memory this year at the spring game.

After the team held a meeting to address the news, head coach Ryan Day spoke about the tragedy, including its impact on current players in the program.

“We have a good group of our guys who played with Dwayne, and they’re hurting. It was a tough weekend for all of us,” Day said per Cleveland.com.

Ohio State will obviously need time to decide exactly how they will honor Haskins, but a plan is being formulated for the spring game.

“We’re still trying to process all of this,” Day said.

Haskins joined the Buckeyes as a four-star prospect in the class of 2016. He was a redshirt, then backup before taking over as the starter in 2018. With 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns, he led Ohio State to a 13-1 record. He was an All-Big Ten first-team selection.

After setting Ohio State passing yards and touchdown records, Haskins decided to take on the next challenge in the NFL. Washington selected him No. 15 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Haskins started 13 games over two seasons with WFT but he went 3-10 and his time with the franchise didn’t work out. The team released him late in 2020.

The Steelers gave him a chance to start over as a reserve quarterback in 2021. While he didn’t play, he was set up to compete for the starting job after the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger.

Sadly, his life ended because he was able to take part in that competition.
