Chelsea FC’s Marcos Alonso appeared to give the Blues a 3-0 lead over Real Madrid, but his amazing finish was ruled out by VAR.

The drama at the Santiago Bernabéu can’t be measured. Down 3-1 on aggregate leading up to the second leg, it looked like Chelsea was all set to be eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday against Real Madrid.

Instead, the Blues have tied things up in dramatic fashion and they even took a lead thanks to a wonder strike from Marcos Alonso. However, the Alonso finish went to VAR and it was ruled out due to a handball. Unreal.

A Marcos Alonso handball broke Chelsea fans’ hearts on Twitter

They say it’s a game of inches for a reason. Alonso’s first shot came back to him, but it clearly hit his hand. Inadvertent or not, the rule states that the goal must be ruled out. As you might have been able to guess, Chelsea fans are furious with the call.

Those are only five of the thousands of tweets that have made their way to Twitter. Fortunately for the CFC supporters, Timo Werner was able to find the back of the net soon after, putting Chelsea up 3-0 for the match and 4-3 on aggregate. Since then, Madrid has now made things 4-4.

Despite that incredible play from Werner, the ruled-out goal from Alonso is going to be talked about for quite some time.
