Fire at Camp Randall sends 1 to hospital with ‘serious injuries’

Things took an ugly turn during the Wisconsin Badgers’ stadium renovation at Camp Randall as a fire broke out at the stadium, sending one person to the hospital.

One person was taken to the hospital to be treated for “serious injuries” following a fire at Camp Randall Stadium, according to a report from the Associated Press.

According to a statement released from the University of Wisconsin’s athletics department, the fire involved a “roofing solvent material” that happened at Camp Randall “during construction at the site of the south end zone renovation.”

The name of the worker has not been released, per the Associated Press. The university’s statement noted that the worker is a subcontract worker.

According to the statement, the fire was subsequently extinguished by “non-emergency personnel” who were at the scene. The statement noted that the worker who was injured received treatment at the scene before being taken to the hospital to receive further treatment for their injuries.

It is not currently clear what caused the fire.

The incident is currently being investigated by police along with the company in charge of the renovation and the “subcontract partners,” according to the university news release. The statement noted that the construction company is offering assistance to the injured worker as well as the worker’s family and colleagues.
