After the Luke Voit collision that concussed Tyler Stepheson, Tommy Pham is sticking up for his teammate and is offering to throw hands.

It wasn’t a normal Tuesday for the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres this week, and things don’t seem to be returning to such a state any time soon.

If you missed it, Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson was forced to leave Tuesday’s game against the Padres after Luke Voits smashed into him at home plate. Baseball has outlawed home plate collisions and has barred players from trucking through catchers in order to score and disrupt what would otherwise be a normal out.

That didn’t stop a collision from happening on Tuesday, however.

Voit was out by a number of steps, but rather than giving himself up he tried to get — let’s say, creative — in jarring the ball loose. The Reds, however, are using a different word to describe Voit’s slide dubbing it a dirty play.

It’s not hard to side with the Reds on this one:

Stephson’s teammates were understandably upset about the play, and those feelings didn’t quell simply because the game ended. Tommy Pham went as far as to say he’d fight Voit to make things right.

It’s unlikely this actually happens and it’s cool of Pham to stick up for his teammate like this. Any sort of retribution will come on the diamond if history tells us anything about these kinds of beefs.

The Reds finish their series against the Padres on Wednesday afternoon but see them again on April 28th, so the score may be settled in short order and away from the boxing gym.
