It sounds like Kansas City Chiefs fans can tune out the Deebo Samuel trade rumors despite early indications of a potential deal.

Leave it to Deebo Samuel to blow up the NFL right when it seemed like things were settling down.

It’s been a whirlwind offseason thus far, with monolithic stars like Davante Adams, Russell Wilson, Tyreek Hill, and Deshaun Watson all moving to new teams as well as the return of Tom Brady to the Buccaneers. With the NFL Draft just days away, it appears as though things are about to get turbulent once again amid Deebo Samuel’s trade request out of San Francisco.

The Niners top receiver reportedly told the team this week that he’d like to be traded, which lines up with the NFL Draft being a prime time for San Francisco to make a deal for current maximum value.

As soon as news broke of Samuel’s trade request, fans and insiders started connecting dots to try and predict what possible trade destinations existed. One of the first teams mentioned — and a team mentioned in just about every listicle, slider, and tweet about potential landing spots, was the Kansas City Chiefs.

Despite being strapped for cash, the Chiefs are a sexy team to put on a list of teams that could land Samuel. Kansas City traded away Tyreek Hill last month and while it added JuJu Smith-Schuster in free agency still has a need at the position. The magic of Patrick Mahomes would suggest that whatever Jimmy Garoppolo could do with Deebo would be turned up to 11 in Andy Reid’s offense.

Deebo Samuel trade rumors: Chiefs don’t appear to be a potential destination

The dream, however, was apparently short-lived.

According to NFL.com’s Jeffri Chadiha, the Chiefs are unlikely to make a move for Deebo despite the immense early wave of rumors that circulated when the trade request was made on Wednesday.

Some speculation that [sic] the Chiefs are interested in 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel because of draft capital. A team source says a move for Samuel — or DK Metcalf, A.J. Brown or Terry McLaurin — isn’t likely,” Chadiha tweeted on Thursday. “Told all those options “are probably all long shots at this point.”

There it is, Chiefs Kingdom. While the idea of Deebo and Mahomes in the same offense together is the stuff of fantasy, reality is setting in that such a tandem will likely only happen in Madden.
