NFL Draft 2022: Kansas City Chiefs draft picks and selections for every round
General manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid figure to be very busy in Las Vegas. The Kansas City Chiefs have a dozen picks in the 2022 NFL Draft.
The number six has a lot of relevance when it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs. Andy Reid’s team has captured the AFC West each year since 2016. When it comes to the NFL draft, the franchise has selected exactly one half-dozen players each of the past five years.
But that streak could be in jeopardy considering the bevy of selections Reid and general manager Brett Veach have at their disposal. The Chiefs own a dozen draft choices heading into the NFL’s annual selection meeting at Las Vegas. That’s tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars (who owns the No. 1 pick for the second straight year) for the most in the league.
In four of the past six drafts, the team did not choose a player in the first round. Dating back to 2016, the only players the franchise have opted for in Round 1 are quarterback Patrick Mahomes (2017) and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (2020).
This year, the early rounds of the draft for the defending AFC West champions has a Noah’s Ark feel to it. The team has a pair of selections in the first-, second-, third- and fourth rounds. Enclosed are the Chiefs’ picks heading into Thursday night:
Kansas City Chiefs 2022 Draft Picks and Selections

1/21: Trent McDuffie, CB/Washington
1/30: George Karlaftis, DE/Purdue
2/62: Bryan Cook, S/Cincinnati
3/103: Leo Chanal, LB/Wisconsin
4/135: Joshua Williams, CB/Fayetteville State
5/145: Darian Kinnard, OT/Kentucky
7/243: Jaylen Watson, CB/Washington State
7/251: Isaih Pachecho, RB/Rutgers

Reid’s team has hosted the AFC Championship Game four consecutive years. The team has two Super Bowl appearances and one Lombardi Trophy to show for it. The club is coming off a season in which turnovers were an issue and the defense was erratic. The Chiefs could use some help at wide receiver and just about everywhere on defense. And this year, they have the draft capital to aid their cause.
