Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes knows a great highlight when he sees one and Royals outfielder Michael A. Taylor may have just pulled off one of the best.

The 2022 MLB season has already given us no-hitting drama, benches-clearing brawls and record-breaking moments.

On Monday, Michael A. Taylor of the Royals gave us an early Play Of The Year contender against the Cardinals.

The outfielder defied gravity with a leaping catch at the wall to deny Andrew Knizner a home run.

The play was so spectacular that Chiefs quarterback, and part-Royals owner, Patrick Mahomes had his jaw on the floor with the rest of the world.

Mahomes has seen his share of spectacular catches on the football field. As far as baseball catches go, it’s hard to get better than that one. It wasn’t just among the best anyone will see this season, it was an all-timer.

Taylor’s catch kept Kansas City in the game, holding things at 1-0 in the fifth inning. However, it wasn’t enough for the Royals to get the victory. They were held scoreless by Steven Matz and the Cardinals’ bullpen.

Zack Greinke allowed just three hits in six innings but the home run he gave up to Paul Goldschmidt in the first inning did him and the offensively-stagnant Royals in.

The 13-9 Cardinals and 7-14 Royals will meet again on Tuesday, this time in Kansas City.
