The NCAA hit Nebraska football and head coach Scott Frost with penalties for violating rules on the number of coaches instructing players.

Scott Frost is already on the hot seat with Nebraska and his life just got a bit more difficult thanks to NCAA penalties.

The Huskers had their probation extended for a year, picked up a fine and will have to manage five days of practice this season without staff members. In addition, Frost will be suspended for five days.

The penalties stem from violations by a former special teams analyst who “provided technical or tactical instruction to student-athletes during practices and film sessions.” As a noncoaching staff member, he was not allowed to have that much of a hand in developing players.

Frost was found to have “not appropriately monitor[ed] the analyst.” He also didn’t notify compliance after it was clear violations had occured.

Nebraska football penalties: Scott Frost hit with a show-cause order

  • A one-year extension to the current probationary period (through April 2023).
  • A $10,000 fine.
  • A one-year show-cause order for the football head coach, plus a five-day suspension from all coaching duties during the championship segment of the 2022 football season.
  • A reduction of the number of football countable coaches by one for two days of practice during the spring 2022 season.
  • All noncoaching staff members will be removed from practice and competition for five consecutive days during the championship segment of the 2022 season.

These are minor penalties, all things considered. However, they’re a bad look for a head coach who has a 15-29 record at a program with such high aspirations as Nebraska. He is entering his fifth year and still hasn’t managed a winning season.
