The Green Bay Packers have enough cap space to sign another veteran free agent or two.

Coming up on a week removed since the 2022 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers can look to acquire a veteran free agent or two with their available cap space.

Green Bay has approximately $10.83 million in available cap space after the 2022 NFL Draft. Even though they have 90 players signed, this amount of cap space has them just below league average. With a Super Bowl appearance right in front of them, it would serve general manager Brian Gutekunst to damn the torpedoes and see if he can help out Aaron Rodgers this summer.

With plenty of viable free agents out there, here are three that could satisfy a need for Green Bay.

The Green Bay Packers need to address depth in their defensive backfield pronto

While the cornerback trio of Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas and Eric Stokes is about as good as it gets from an NFL talent perspective, the Packers cannot afford for one of them to get hurt this year. Though Douglas flourished in his expanded opportunity a season ago when Alexander went down, the Packers cannot count on somebody else being this year’s version of Douglas for them.

Not to say it needs to be him, 100 percent, but adding a former first-round talent in Vernon Hargreaves could be in line with what the Packers are thinking about in adding to their cornerback rotation. The former Florida star most recently played with the AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals. Though he did not play much for Lou Anarumo last year, Hargreaves was part of a winning team.

With teammates like Alexander, Douglas and Stokes, iron could theoretically sharpen iron in Green Bay should Hargreaves link up with the Packers. Of course, he may not be the perfect scheme fit for their defense. Regardless, it would serve the Packers to look at acquiring a player whose career has not panned out up to this point. Hargreaves could get back to the Super Bowl with Green Bay.

Hargreaves may be a name more than anything, but this is the type of cornerback they will pursue.
