Grizzlies get unfortunate Ja Morant update ahead of Game 4 vs. Warriors

Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins provided an update on Ja Morant’s status for Game 4 against the Golden State Warriors, and it isn’t good.

The Memphis Grizzlies are down 1-2 in their Western Conference Semi-Finals series against the Golden State Warriors, but the main story is the status of star Ja Morant. During the game, Morant exited with a right knee injury and was seen limping. For Grizzlies wondering what Morant’s status for Game 4 on Monday, May 9 was…it’s not good.

Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins revealed to the media on Sunday that it is likely Morant will miss Game 4 against the Warriors due to his right knee injury.

Jenkins talked about Morant’s injury, citing the team’s belief that it occurred when Jordan Poole grabbed Morant’s right knee when appearing to make a play for the ball. That is when Morant exited the contest.

After Game 3, Morant said “broke the code” in a since-deleted tweet. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr used that same phrase when talking about Dillon Brooks’ foul on Gary Payton II in Game 2. That play resulted in Payton suffering a fractured left elbow.

Poole will not be disciplined by the NBA for the play on Morant, per The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.

Morant’s absence will be significant, as he led Memphis in scoring in every one of the first three games of the series. Perhaps his most notable performance was when he scored 47 points in the team’s 106-101 Game 2 victory.

Through the first three games, Morant averaged 38.3 points 8.3 assists, 6.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals while shooting 51.8-percent from the field and 45.1-percent from the three-point line.
