5 teams that can make an intriguing offer for Donovan Mitchell
By Nick Villano
1. Minnesota Timberwolves
This one seems like a long shot, but hear us out. The Minnesota Timberwolves are on the cusp of something special, but they need to rethink the pieces. D’Angelo Russell is probably on his way out this offseason. Honestly, he could be part of a Donovan Mitchell deal. It helps match salaries and the Jazz can add an interesting regular season player who can revamp his value after he was benched at the end of the deciding Game 6 for the Wolves against the Dallas Mavericks.
On top of Russell, the T-Wolves can add 2019 first-round pick Malik Beasley, but this trade would have to come with a bevy of draft picks. That might be intriguing to the Jazz since the Timberwolves aren’t exactly a guarantee to avoid the lottery every year. If the Jazz play their cards right, they could really turn their franchise into a powerhouse in a few years with the right draft pick trade.
The T-Wolves seem like a good fit when it comes to trading a ton of picks for the right player. They have Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards as legit superstars. Adding one more player to the mix would make this team a scary team in the Western Conference. Instead of being a tweener team, this is someone that could actually go far when it matters.
Even that possibility is enough for the T-Wolves to mortgage their future for a chance to be a true contender. They have control of all of their first-round picks, and that’s why they can afford to take a risk like this. It seems like a long shot, but it makes a lot of sense.
