Did Noah Syndergaard troll Mets after Reid Detmers no-hitter? Not so fast

In just the 11th start of his young major league career, Los Angeles Angels southpaw Reid Detmers made history, throwing the twelfth no-hitter in franchise history, this time against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The 22-year-old Detmers struck out just two batters in the epic performance, but he kept his defense busy – recording 11 ground-ball outs and 14 fly-ball outs along the way.

While the Angels and the baseball world as a whole celebrated the accomplishment, one of Detmers’ teammates took to social media to throw what some perceived as a jab at his former team.

But was it actually a shot? Uh…not so fast.

Noah Syndergaard didn’t throw shade at Mets after all

Noah Syndergaard, the longtime face of the New York Mets pitching staff, had a falling out with his former team since they opted against tendering him a contract in this past offseason.

The 29-year-old righty went on the record to say that it was “radio silence” from his former employer over the offseason before the Angels swooped in and signed him to a deal worth just $3 million more than the Mets were willing to offer.

The Mets threw a combined no-hitter themselves back on April 29th on the backs of pitchers Tylor Megill, Drew Smith, Joely Rodriguez, Seth Lugo and Edwin Diaz. The second no-hitter in Mets history isn’t what Syndergaard is referring to, despite what some fans may think

Currently playing on a one-year ‘prove it’ type of deal with the Angels, Syndergaard, commonly known as ‘Thor’, is off to an exceptional start with his new team, putting up a 3-1 record through five starts with a 2.45 ERA and 21 strikeouts against six walks in 29+ innings.
