5 offseason moves the Philadelphia 76ers have to make

2. Make room for Paul Reed to play bigger minutes
It’s a hard world being Paul Reed. He’s the backup center on the Philadelphia 76ers. He’s basically like the guy who plays behind Tom Brady. Sure, he will get some time in blowout wins and there’s no pressure on him to perform, but he never gets to show another gear. The difference between basketball and football is coaches can get creative in the NBA to get the best players minutes.
Reed averaged 7.9 minutes per game in the regular season. That jumped to 11.7 minutes per game in the playoffs. He averaged 3.7 points and 3.8 rebounds in the postseason.
Listen, there isn’t anything incredible there yet, but the Sixers need to see what they have here in Paul Reed. He had some games where the team went big to try and combat what the Heat were doing. It was an interesting lineup. In Game 2 of the series, the Sixers played him 25 minutes and he was just a -2 despite the Sixers losing by 16. He had some tenacity at times despite the Sixers having a rough series.
This could be a way for the team to move forward. It’s a completely different way to play the game. Most teams are getting smaller, and there’s a reason for that, but sometimes it is best go go against the grain. This could be how the Sixers build around Embiid, and it could also be a way to play him fewer minutes in the regular season.
