After winning the Rose Bowl last season, 48-45 over the Utah Utes, Ohio State gave Ryan Day a well-deserved raise.

Day and the Buckeyes have been in the College Football Playoff conversation seemingly every year since he took over full-time in 2019.

The young coach has yet to win a National Championship, which is surely the Buckeyes ultimate goal, but he has gotten OSU to the Playoff on two occasions. In 2019, Ohio State lost to Clemson in the semifinals, and in 2020 they were defeated by Alabama in the National Title Game.

Nonetheless, Day has shown plenty of promise and routinely dominates the Big Ten. They’re favored to win the conference again next season thanks to the likes of C.J. Stroud and a talented group of upperclassmen.

Ryan Day contract: How much is Ohio State paying him?

Day will make $9.5 million in 2022 — which is a $2 million raise paired with a two-year contract extension. His deal now goes through 2028.

With the increase in pay, Day’s deal is now on par with the likes of Michigan State’s Mel Tucker. Tucker’s contract shocked college football at its inception, as he’s not considered in the same league as the likes of Day, Dabo Swinney and Nick Saban.

Who is the highest-paid coach in college football?

The highest-paid coach in college football is Lincoln Riley, with Nick Saban just behind him.

Riley was given a juicy $10 million AAV by Southern Cal to leave Oklahoma, and that was tough to him to say no to. Saban, meanwhile, deserves every penny of his $9.9 million salary given his longevity and annual dominance of the sport itself.
