Tarik Skubal injury: Another Tigers starting pitcher goes down
By Mark Powell
The Detroit Tigers pitching staff just cannot stay healthy right now, with young righty Tarik Skubal as the latest to go down.
Skubal was hit in the leg with a comebacker, and removed from the game as a precaution. It’s unknown as of right now how long he’ll be out for.
An already short-rested bullpen was forced to get up in a hurry, with Skubal being taken out in the middle of an inning. The line drive which hit Skubal was measured off the bat at 100.4 mph. That’s gotta sting.
Detroit’s rotation is short to begin with, with Eduardo Rodriguez, Casey Mize, Spencer Turnbull, Michael Pineda and Matt Manning all out due to injury. Adding Skubal to that list would be devastating to a team already dealt a tough hand to begin the season.
Heck, even Miggy is trying to recruit some help on this young campaign.
Tarik Skubal injury: Tigers can’t catch a break
Bad injury luck is normal in baseball — most teams go through it at some point throughout the year. But for it to happen this quickly to the same position is unusual for Detroit.
While the Tigers have featured a surprisingly-reliable bullpen so far this year, it’ll be tough for them to hold up with the extra innings they’re being asked to take on as a result of shorter starts and less depth.
Hopefully, Skubal won’t miss significant time. We’ll have more on his injury when it becomes available.
