MLB rumors: 3 Cardinals pitching targets not named Frankie Montas
Wade Miley, Chicago Cubs
The gritty lefty arm might be a prime target for the Cardinals at the deadline. Fansided’s Mark Powell discussed a possible trade involving the rival NL Central clubs involving Miley.
“The Cincinnati Reds placed Miley on waivers this past offseason and allowed him to go to a division rival for nothing,” Murray reported. “In turn, the left-hander has posted a 3.38 ERA in only three starts and could net the Cubs a top-30 prospect before the Aug. 2 deadline.”
In 16 innings pitched, Miley in 1-0 in three games started. Miley has a huge arsenal of pitches including a cutter, a changeup, a four-seam fastball, a slider, a sinker, and a curveball. Miley’s most used pitch is a cutter that averages 85.7 mph with an active spin of 52%.
That said, he does induce 58% ground balls with these pitches. This is certainly attractive to the president of baseball operations, John Mozeliak. Expect Mozeliak will attempt to see if a move to acquire Miley is even possible.
