Randall Cobb: Aaron Rodgers shouldn’t be concerned about Packers WRs

The sixth-leading pass-catcher in Green Bay Packers history returned to the team in 2021. This offseason, the club has a lot of new faces at wide receiver.

Randall Cobb has spent nine of his 11 NFL seasons with the Green Bay Packers. A second-round pick by the team in 2011, his primary quarterback with the franchise has been four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. A year ago, the club made a deal with the Houston Texans to reacquire his services.

It’s been a year of transition for the team’s wide receiving corps. All-Pro Davante Adams was dealt to the Las Vegas Raiders. Meanwhile, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown signed with the Chiefs and Bears, respectively.

On the other hand, general manager Brian Gutekunst added veteran Sammy Watkins in free agency. He also secured the services of Christian Watson (North Dakota State), Romeo Doubs (Nevada) and Samori Toure (Nebraska) in April’s draft. The latter four join the likes of incumbents such as Cobb, Allen Lazard and 2021 rookie Amari Rodgers.

That’s quite the overhaul and there has already been some skepticism regarding the changes. But apparently doesn’t matter to Cobb, who at the team’s recent OTAs had his thoughts regarding the doubters (via NFL.com’s Bobby Kownack).

“I really don’t care. I’ve been doubted my whole life. You think I care? I wouldn’t be here. People didn’t want me here, I’m here. People didn’t want me to leave, I’m here. People didn’t want me on the Packers, I’m here. People didn’t want me traded back here, I’m here.

“I don’t care about what anybody got to say. I’m going to go out and do what I’m supposed to do and have fun doing it, put a smile on my face and try to win some games.”

The 11-year pro also had good things to say about Watson. “He has the total package. Just being around him for the past week and seeing some of the things he can do, he has all the tools. He’s very gifted. It’s about applying it, taking the stuff he learns in the classroom, taking it to the field. He has the tools. It’s about refining those tools. And it takes time.”

Next. Every NFL team’s greatest draft class. dark

Yes, it will take some time for all of these changes for Matt LaFleur’s new-look Green Bay Packers’ offense to meld together. Of course, it’s a 17-game regular-season these days. And last year’s Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams, needed 21 games to capture a Lombardi Trophy. Plenty of time, indeed.
