The recruiting arms race between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher could be an all-time barnburner.

As the Alabama football program game plans for how to win its next national title, Nick Saban has spent way too much time being overly worried about what Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M are doing in College Station.

The Aggies put together the greatest recruiting class of all time last cycle. With more five-stars than anyone would know what to do with, Saban has been a strong opponent of all things going on at A&M. It is a cold war on the recruiting trails that has certainly heated up a bit. So if Saban and his staff really want to stick to A&M this year, why not mess with these recruits from Texas?

If Alabama wants to hit Texas A&M where it hurts, Saban can try to “steal” these top-tier recruits.

El Campo (El Campo, TX). 3. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. RB. Rueben Owens. 829

Great opportunities may await Rueben Owens in the Alabama running back room

Rueben Owens is the first of three five-stars hailing from The Lone Star State we will touch on. He is the No. 1 running back prospect in the country for 2023, the No. 3 player from Texas and the No. 17 player nationally. The El Campo star has 42 official offers, but is looking at seven programs: Alabama, Georgia, Louisville, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and USC. He has two visits scheduled in June.

Owens will be taking his official visit to TCU next weekend on June 3 and will be heading to Louisville in a few weeks on June 17. With only three more official visits left to be used, it will be interesting to see what programs do end up getting officials from Owens. Though he has not been predicted to Alabama, there really isn’t a strong consensus over who he is likely to be signing with.

The Longhorns may be the favorite at this point, but Alabama has as good of a chance as anyone to beat out Texas A&M for his commitment. Owens may be waiting to see where other top players decide to commit before picking a school. Frankly, the longer Alabama remains in the equation, the more likely he is going to a program of that caliber. This is a long shot, but Alabama can beat A&M.

Alabama is just waiting for the next star running back to emerge within the Crimson Tide offense.
