Vikings beef up WR depth with former Chiefs, Dolphins pass-catcher

The Minnesota Vikings added to their wide receiver depth for the 2022 season with former Chiefs and Dolphins veteran Albert Wilson.

Kirk Cousins has a new receiver to take advantage of this season as he looks to get the Vikings back into contention.

On Tuesday, Minnesota penned a one-year agreement to added wide receiver Albert Wilson as a free agent, according to Adam Schefter.

Wilson, who post recently played for the Dolphins after starting his career with the Chiefs, is getting $1.12 million on an unguaranteed deal, per Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The Vikings also reportedly made an offer to Dede Westbrook but he “didn’t immediately accept it.”

What can Wilson bring to the Vikings? He has had some big games in his pro career, making plays on the inside with the ball in his hands. He’s small at 5-foot-9 but with the quickness and agility to make up for it.

Wilson isn’t a marquee addition. However, he’s a veteran with solid experience as a contributor in the slot. He’ll add to Minnesota’s utilizable depth at the position if nothing else.

An undrafted free agent in the 2014 draft, Wilson still managed to make his way onto the Chiefs roster. He played in Kansas City until 2017, producing 1,544 yards and seven touchdowns in four seasons.

He joined the Dolphins in 2018 and spent the next three seasons as a third or fourth option. He sat out the 2020 season because of COVID-19.
