5) Atlanta Braves third base coach Ron Washington

Ron Washington could be a great fit for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Currently, Washington, 70, is the third base and infield coach for the reigning World Series-champion Atlanta Braves. He has managerial experience as he managed the Texas Rangers from 2007 through 2014.

He has been known as a defensive guru for a quarter of a century of coaching and managing in the majors so he has plenty of experience in coaching and managing.

But the Phillies have long been one of the worst defensive teams in baseball. Under his tutelage, infielders like Alec Bohm and Didi Gregorius and even some of their outfielders could really turn their defensive capabilities around.

Washington told FanSided’s Robert Murray last year that he was still interested in managing and thought that he could help put the San Diego Padres over the top so why not with the Phillies?

The only problem would be that it would be difficult to get him away from the Braves during the season since they are division rivals. It would be much easier to do if they hired him in the offseason but, perhaps, it could even be done mid-season.

Hiring Washington could help both the Philadelphia Phillies with experience and defense but also help them in the fact that it would hurt the Braves as well.
