Davante Adams blames Aaron Rodgers uncertainty as reason for leaving Green Bay

Wide receiver Davante Adams said that the status of Aaron Rodgers played a role in him requesting a trade to the Las Vegas Raiders.

One of the biggest shocks on what was an eventful NFL offseason was that the Davante Adams is no longer a member of the Green Bay Packers. Back in March, Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for first- and second-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, and immediately agreed to a five-year, $140 million contract. Packers fans were left wondering why the trade took place.

When speaking with the media on Thursday, June 9, Adams opened up about the trade to the Raiders. The wide receiver revealed that not knowing how much longer quarterback Aaron Rodgers was going to play with the Packers played a role in the trade taking place.

Adams did preface by saying that while he does like backup Jordan Love, he is at a point where he does not want to sacrifice a part of his career if Rodgers were to retire in the coming years. Not only that, but he did say that being closer to his family played a role in the trade to Las Vegas happening.

For the past year, Rodgers’ status with the Packers has been in the national spotlight. From whether he was going to actually show up for training camp ahead of last season to if he was going to retire at the end of the campaign.

Ultimately, Rodgers and the franchise agreed to terms on a three-year, $150.8 million contract extension. Despite the contract, the quarterback has brought up retirement, saying that he thinks about it “all the time.” So, who knows when Rodgers will decide that he is done playing football.

Adams is now with the Raiders, who made a run to the playoffs last year. He gets to reunite with former Fresno State teammate and quarterback Derek Carr and look to repeat the production they had during their time playing for the Bulldogs football program.
