LeBron James knows something about owning professional sports franchises. He is a partner of the Fenway Sports Group, which owns franchises like the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins and Liverpool F.C. But he has his eyes on the NBA.

During an appearance on the latest episode of UNINTERRUPTED’s “The Shop,” James expressed his desire of owning an NBA franchise. Specifically, James said that he would like to own a team based out of Las Vegas.

James saying that he wants to own a team is not new, as he has brought it up over the years. But, would a team in Las Vegas be a feasible option?

Earlier this year, Bill Simmons of The Ringer said that he received “intel” that the NBA was going to expand to Las Vegas and Seattle. He then said he believes James and the Fenway Sports Group would be interested in the Las Vegas franchise. However, the NBA responded, saying that there was “no truth” to it.

Ahead of the NBA Finals, commissioner Adam Silver said that the league is not planning on expanding to Seattle and Las Vegas after the 2023-24 season. Silver did say, however, that they would look at it at some point, just not this soon. You can listen to Silver’s comments below, courtesy of Mick Akers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

James’ full comments regarding owning an NBA franchise can be seen on the new episode of “The Shop,” which will be posted on YouTube on Friday, June 10 at 12:00 p.m. ET.
