CJ Carr committing to Notre Dame means his grandfather Lloyd Carr now roots for the Irish.

Michigan fans have to be upset seeing legacy recruit CJ Carr pick Notre Dame over the Wolverines.

Carr is not only a five-star quarterback prospect in-state from the 2024 class, but he is the grandson of iconic Michigan head coach, Lloyd Carr. Not only should this sting, but Carr taking a picture with his grandfather sporting a Notre Dame ball cap should make people question if Jim Harbaugh is the long-term solution in Ann Arbor. How can Michigan possibly botch this one up?

On the other side of the coin, give a ton of credit to Marcus Freeman and Tommy Rees for making Notre Dame cool for the first time in multiple generations.

CJ Carr committing to Notre Dame is a massive red flag for Michigan football

While Carr has the chance to be the best quarterback Notre Dame has seen since Brady Quinn, what does this say about Michigan? The Wolverines just won the Big Ten and had their best season since Carr was their head coach. Again, even though it was entirely his grandson’s choice over where to attend college, Michigan was somehow unable to capitalize on last year’s success.

This is a consequence to Harbaugh playing flirt with the Minnesota Vikings. Yes, he will power through the awkwardness because Harbaugh has never had an awkward moment in his life, no matter how awkward you say a moment was. Unlike Michigan, Notre Dame has shown it can get to the College Football Playoff with great regularity. If Freeman hits, the Irish will be dangerous.

Look. We are going to see another high-profile commitment here soon where a notable legacy player is not going to sign with his family’s alma mater. Arch Manning is not going to Ole Miss or to Tennessee. His Grandpa Red will have to embrace saying, “Go Dawgs”, “Hook ‘Em, Horns” or even “Roll Tide”. The big difference is Ole Miss and Tennessee are not Michigan. This is so beyond bad.

Can you even imagine Carr’s grandson beating Michigan before his college career runs its course?
