Who has the most US Open wins in golf history?
The US Open is steeped with tradition and is the ultimate test in golf. But when it comes to the most victories in the tournament’s 121-year history, which golfer has the most titles?
This year’s tournament will tee off this week from The Brookline Country Club in Massachusetts. Jon Rahm became the first-ever Spanish golfer to win the US Open last year at Torrey Pines. It was Rahm’s first major championship.
Rahm will be looking to become the first golfer since Brooks Koepka in 2018 to repeat as champion. Curtis Strange accomplished that same feat all the way back in 1989. But which golfer has the most US Opens in the history of golf?
Most US Open wins in golf history
When you’re looking to identify which golfer has the most US Open Championships in the history of the sport, you’ll stumble across some of the all-time greats. Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, and Jack Nicklaus have each won four US Open titles.
Anderson won the first of his four US Opens in 1901. Anderson then won three in a row from 1903-05. To this day, Willie Anderson is the only man to have won three consecutive US Open titles.
Jones is a household name for most golf enthusiasts. Despite retiring from the sport at the age of 28, Bobby Jones still won four US Open Championships, including taking home the coveted trophy in 1929 and 1930.
Hogan is tied with Gary Player with the fourth-most major championships in the history of golf with nine. Ben Hogan won four US Opens, two Masters Tournaments, two PGA Championships, and the Open Championship.
It’s no surprise that Jack Nicklaus makes the list. Arguably the greatest golfer of all time, Nicklaus has 73 professional victories under his belt. Four of those wins were during the US Open, with Nicklaus’ last one coming in 1980.
The only active golfer who could match Anderson, Jones, Hogan, and Nicklaus is not playing in this week’s tournament. Tiger Woods, who has three US Opens to his name, will not compete in this year’s major championship.
