MLB rumors: New York Mets could trade for Martin Perez.

Don’t look now, but the New York Mets’ firm grasp on the National League East is beginning to slip away. The Mets looked like they’d be runaway winners of the division just a few weeks ago, but the defending champion Atlanta Braves and the Joe Girardi-less Philadelphia Phillies have other ideas.

Part of the reason for the Mets’ struggles, if you can even call it that, has been the lack of healthy starting pitching. The Mets have been without both Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer. The Mets are living proof that you can never have enough good starting pitching, as Tylor Megill and Chris Bassitt have helped keep the rotation afloat.

But perhaps it’s time for the Mets front office to give the Texas Rangers a call. The one thing lacking in New York’s rotation is a reliable left-handed pitcher. Martin Perez could give Buck Showalter’s bunch a shot in the arm as the team looks to make the march into the playoffs.
