While it may not help him win the 2022 US Open, but Cameron Young’s hole-in-one on Friday may help him avoid the cut at The Country Club at Brookline.

Cameron Young entered his third US Open looking to get over the hump. After falling just short of battling Will Zalatoris and Justin Thomas in a playoff at the PGA Championship, it felt like the 25-year-old had a chance to make some noise at The Country Club this week.

Unfortunately, Smith was 2 over-par before teeing it up on Friday afternoon. After several other players like Scottie Scheffler, Nick Hardy, and Sam Burns posted rounds under-par, the cut line was moving in the wrong direction for Young.

After making the turn at one-over for the day and three-over for the tournament, Young needed to turn things around on the back nine. Bogeying his first hole on the back isn’t exactly a good way to start.

Then, after parring the 11th, Cameron Young was made to look like you and me after putting a snowman on his scorecard on his 12th hole of the day. Young had a quadruple-bogey, and sitting at seven over-par for the tournament.

After missing the cut in his previous two US Open appearances, it looked like it was going to take a miracle in order to Young to make the cut at The Country Club.

A bogey on the next hole followed birdie kept Young at seven over-par for the tournament as he teed up his ball on hole No. 6 (Young began his day on the back nine).

With an 8-iron from 165 yards away, Cameron Young took aim at the flag stick. The ball sat softly, and after a bounce or two, it rolled snuggly into the hole and lowered his score to 5-over. He eventually finished at 2-over for the day and 4-over for the tournament.

Will that be enough to make the cut? We’ll have to wait and see. The projected cut is sitting at +3.
