The Mets should give a call to the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are no stranger to trading players at the trade deadline. There is a starter they can target in Jose Quintana.

Last year, Quintana split time between the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants, where he boasted a bloated 6.43 ERA and a 1.730 WHIP through 10 starts in 2021. This offseason, the Pirates took a chance on Quintana, signing him to a $2 million contract for the 2022 campaign. So far, he has been a solid signing for Pittsburgh.

As of this writing, Quintana recorded a 3.53 ERA and a 1.330 WHIP, while striking out 50 batters through 58.2 innings (12 starts).

When compared to the other pitchers mentioned as potential trade deadline candidates, Quintana will not cost the Mets much in terms of prospects. If they want a pitcher to handle the middle-to-end of the rotation, Quintana could be the pitcher for them.
