Matt Fitzpatrick was soaking in winning the US Open watching his trophy being engraved but he also made sure to flex on everybody too.

It was a monumental day at The Country Club for Matt Fitzpatrick on Sunday. He knew he had the opportunity to make his first win in America at the US Open as he started the day in the final group alongside Will Zalatoris, but he’d have to play pristine golf to make that happen. Sure enough, that’s exactly what he did.

With a phenomenal performance, Fitzpatrick notched a one-shot victory to post a final score of 6-under for the tournament after Zalatoris missed a 14-foot birdie putt on the final hole to finish second in a major once again.

This, however, was not the first time that Fitzpatrick had tasted a big-time victory at The Country Club at Brookline.

Back in 2013, Fitzpatrick was the US Amateur champion at the same course, a narrative that seemed to make him destined to fail coming into the week but, alas, that was not the case. And so after winning the double in Brookline, he made sure to not let that be forgotten.

As Fitzpatrick was watching his US Open trophy be engraved, he made sure that he also had his US Amateur trophy in hand — you know, just to flex on everyone that he owns The Country Club.

He also made sure to pose once he had his newest piece of hardware as well.

Golfers to win US Amateur and US Open: Matt Fitzpatrick joins elite list

With his victory on Sunday, Fitzpatrick became just the 13th player in golf history to win both the US Amateur and US Open. The list includes the following: Francis Ouimet, Jerome Travers, Chick Evans, Bobby Jones, Johnny Goodman, Lawson Little, Arnold Palmer, Gene Littler, Jack Nicklaus, Jerry Pate, Tiger Woods, Bryson DeChambeau, and Fitzpatrick. Not a bad list to be part of.

Even more impressive, Fitzpatrick also joined Nicklaus as the only player to win the US Amateur and US Open at the same course. Nicklaus accomplished the feat with his second US Am title and third US Open title at Pebble Beach. In that light, you could say Fitzpatrick’s accomplishment might be even more incredible as he’s 1-and-1 on his pair of USGA titles.
