Ohio State lands another 5-star WR because Brian Hartline is that guy

All Brian Hartline does is get five-star wide receivers to commit to his alma mater, THE Ohio State University.

With five-star wide receiver Carnell Tate committing to Ohio State, Buckeyes wide receivers coach Brian Hartline is 100 percent that guy.

The IMG Academy product by way of Chicago committed to the Buckeyes on Monday afternoon. According to the 247Sports Composite, Tate was the No. 3 wide receiver in the country, the No. 7 player “from Florida” and the No. 28 overall player nationally. He had 37 official offers, but picked the Buckeyes over the Tennessee Volunteers, the LSU Tigers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Ohio State may have lost Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson off last year’s team to the 2022 NFL Draft, as well as a third first-rounder in Jameson Williams to Alabama by way of the transfer portal. However, Hartline’s track record of recruiting and cultivating receiver talent has set him apart from seemingly everyone else in the game. Tate is the fifth five-star he has landed so far.

As Tate plays out his senior season at IMG, it will be up to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Julian Fleming, Emeka Egbuka and former four-star Marvin Harrison Jr. to carry the weight of the Ohio State receiving corps. It should be noted the Buckeyes might have the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft rifling them the pigskin in Heisman Trophy finalist C.J. Stroud under center for the team.

Ultimately, Hartline is a huge reason why the Buckeyes are one of the only teams who can consistently contend for College Football Playoff berths north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Ohio State is one of only a few college programs who can recruit at an SEC level outside of the SEC. While Tate plays his final year of high school ball, he may join a team fresh off a national championship.

It is only a matter of when Ohio State will be College Football Playoff National Champions again.
